On the fourth day I started my day by doing quality control, they had 50 womens wear polyester shirts, same process as the shorts but this time I also had to open all the buttons hole, each shirts had 7 buttons.
While I was doing the quality check a client came with patterns and fabrics, she explained to the tailor and showed her a sample. The tailor asked very specific questions after seeing the pattern, she is children's wear designer. It was really interesting to assist to a conversation between a designer and a tailor. As soon as the client left we had to start on this children’s wear project, it’s denim dresses which come in 4 different colors details size from 0 to 4 years. The tailor finally ask me to sit on the machine, another intern helped me to tread the machine and the bobine with the right color thread. The tailor gave me the sleeves and the up bodice that she cut, it was a good start as it was straight lines, with an easy fabric denim.

The following day I started straight on the machine, I saw the pockets and the bodice together with the lining. After the sewing I did ironing, this is also an important step, I opened the seams, ironed the pockets. Once this task was finished I had to do some quality control, 6 dresses, on that bacht they was few mistakes I had to give back 2 garments to the tailor.

The sixth day Siah had a meeting, so we started the day with a big cleaning, Siah was expecting an important client, all the team came all together. After the cleaning we started again on the children’s clothes, we started on different sizes, again I did the sleeves, and the pocket. On the Seventh day a new client came with a new project Jumpsuit for children and adult, Siah asked me to participate to this meeting, I could ask questions and see the client patterns, technical drawings, fabric choice and samples. After the meeting we had to cut the pattern, I learn the layout cutting with multiple layers. After drawing the patterns on the fabric, and set the layers we use an electric blade to cut the pieces. The jumpsuit had 14 different pattern pieces each size, and comes into 14 differentes sizes. After finishing my 7 day, Siah ask me to stay intern with them and come after college to help them, practice and learn about the business, I am very happy to go there every thursday and friday after college.

After the presentation, she gave me a drawing of a jacket and asked me to make the pattern and the toile. This was a big challenge, at the beginning I was very stressed as I never made a jacket before, and the drawing looked complex. I started by taking the front bodice, the sleeve and the back bodice size 12. I looked at the drawing trying to identify the details of the jacket, the armhole was lower then the bodice pattern, it has kimono sleeve closing with buttons, dote manipulation, 2 pockets and a belt. Once the pattern was finish I had to cut it in kalico. I enjoyed the sewing part, but I had some challenge, I had to adjust the sleeve to fit with the armhole.  Even if I was not confident about the project I didn’t give up and made the toile jacket step by step.

Day 1

During the second day I helped the tailor, she was working on black shorts. I started by cutting the elastic according to the sizes (S,M,L).
Once this task was finished I helped the pattern cutter on a another project. She just made the pattern for a blouse,, I had to place the pattern on the fabric, I had to pret attention to the direction of the fabric as it was African print, and also put some pattern on the fold size and also some piece needed to be fused.
This was a great task as while I was doing it the pattern cutter explain to me the basic rules to follow on pattern cutting, I really appreciate the time they take to explain to the interns. It’s a great opportunity to learn tips from very experienced people.

Day 2

On the third day  straight go the the tailor and asked her how can I help you, she was still working on the black shorts, so I started by unstitching as she sew it wrong, unstitching it’s not an easy task as you have to be careful not to damage the garment. I then sew together the elastic that I was cutting the day before. When you work in production on different pieces, you have to be very organised and keep all the sizes together. After I started quality check on 60 ready shorts. Quality check is the last step before we handing the goods to the clients, it’s a very important task where you have to cut all the threads that exceed, check all the seams, size measurements clean all the chalk stains.
